What Happened to McKnights?

Some of you may have noticed that McKnight’s suddenly closed up shop.

Apparently, it’s back open now, but with a different theme and name. It’s called “Treasure Cay Island Grill and Bar” (though they pronounce it incorrectly as “treasure kay”, vs “treasure key”, which is actually an island, so you can call it “treasure island island”, oddly). They’ve also dramatically replaced all their draft beer with the cheap americans, such as miller lite and bud light, presumably because it’s more tropical (it isn’t).

However, they do have an interesting menu, and the inside, in my opinion, looks much nicer without all those dollar bills stapled everywhere. I intend to go and at least eat there to see what it’s all about.

Will us shanty boys be there? Who knows, at this point. Looks promising, but no details.

Meanwhile, stop by Hurricane Patty’s.

Talk LIke A Pirate Day!

Avast, there mateys. Tis be International Talk LIke a Pirate day, it is!

If the ship go before the wind, or as they term it, betwixt two sheets, then he who conds uses these terms to him at the helm: Starboard, larboard, the helm amidships... If the ship go by a wind, or a quarter winds, they say aloof, or keep your loof, or fall not off, wear no more, keep her to, touch the wind, have a care of the lee-latch. all these do imply the same in a manner, are to bid him at the helm to keep her near the wind.

Lift the skin up, and put into the bunt the slack of the clews (not too taut), the leech and foot-rope, and body of the sail; being careful not to let it get forward under or hang down abaft. Then haul your bunt well up on the yard, smoothing the skin and bringing it down well abaft, and make fast the bunt gasket round the mast, and the jigger, if there be one, to the tie.

Such a day, rum all out- Our company somewhat sober- A damned confusion amongst us !- Rogues a-plotting - Great talk of separation- so I looked sharp for a prize- Such a day found one with a great deal of liquor on board, so kept the company hot, damned hot, then things went well again.

Here’s Google in
Pirate Language.

See you at Hurricane Pattys.

Rusty Cutlass coming to town

Another pirate shanty band is coming through town: Rusty Cutlass.

Come out to the taberna on Thursday night for a good show.

Calendar of Events

I’ve added a Calendar of events so everyone can see we’ll be at McKnights for ever. This replaces the rarely updated “Shows” page.

As we get more piracy up and running in Saint Aug, we’ll keep this fella up to date. It’s also a public Google calendar, so you can even subscribe to it in your own google calendar, or iCal or the iPhone or something.

Whatchu think?

Various TLAP events

On September 19th, it’s Talk Like A Pirate day. Here’s some of what’s going on:

  • Hurricane Patty’s - we’ll be there
  • Ann O’Malleys - some big deal party as well
  • McKnights - we’ll be there after Hurricane Patty’s.
